Information for Visiting Teams

Information for Visiting Teams

The Killer Whales would like to welcome you to our neighborhood for our swim meet.

We are looking forward to hosting your team and having a great time!

Below is information about our pool and meet operations. Please pass this information along to your coaches, volunteers and swim families.

Our Pool

Address: 2000 Shepherds Vineyard Dr, Apex, NC 27502

Directions: From Raleigh (SW I-440 Beltline area): Take US-1 South to US-64 West. Take exit 98B towards Apex. Continue on US-64 West for 1.5 miles. Turn left onto Lake Pine Drive and continue onto Old Raleigh Road. Turn right onto Shepherds Vineyard Drive. The pool is immediately on the left.

Our pool closes to members at 4pm and we are typically ready to start welcoming the visiting team by 4:30.

Parking: We reserve our parking lot for visitors though parking is still limited. Please carpool when feasible.

Seating: The visiting team is welcome to set up on the concession stand side of the pool deck (same side as the porch swing). It is advised to bring folding chairs as we typically do not have enough for everyone. Tents for shade are also helpful.

Lanes: We have a 25 yard, 8 lane pool and the visiting team uses lanes 2,4,6 for main events.

The pool has deck lighting and is licensed to operate at night. We have starting platforms.

Team Spirit/Decorating

We do not allow the use of body paint or decorations that could damage or stain our pool deck or pool deck furniture. Please ask swimmers, coaches and parents to minimize Sharpie/body decor for this reason.

Food

Concessions: We will have specific food trucks/restaurants on site (see date specific options below) and our usual pool snack bar (ice creams, candies, popsicles) available for purchase at the meet this year.

6/9 Ty’s All Natural & Romeos & Buoy Bowls

6/30 Ty’s All Natural & Romeos

7/7 Romeos & Barone’s Italian Grille

For Romeo’s Pizza we highly recommend calling ahead (919-355-2920) to place your order for pickup at the swim meet at Shepherds Vineyard Pool. You can order anything from their menu. Please place your orders BEFORE 4:30pm on meet day. If you do not order ahead please bring exact change/cash as credit card payments have been problematic in the past– additionally without ordering ahead we cannot guarantee availability.

Barone's Italian Grille: https://streetfoodfinder.com/baronemeatball

For volunteers and coaches we will have water bottles available throughout the night if needed. We also have a water fountain with a water bottle filling station if you’re looking for a more eco friendly option.

Warmups

  • Home team warm up at 5pm
  • Visiting team warm up 5:30pm
  • The meet will begin promptly at 6:00pm

Officials/Volunteers

We run meets with 2 timers per lane in all 8 lanes so please have 8 timer volunteers available throughout the night. We do plan to use Order of Finish judges, so plan to have a volunteer available for this role as well.

We have a meeting for timers at 5:45pm in the baby pool area. A meeting for TSA reps, Order of Finish judges, the runner, and stroke and turn officials will occur at 5:45 outside the main pool entry gates by the bicycle rack.

Meet Process

Timing: We use Time Drops timing software and have enough for our entire pool. We will train your timers on how to use it during the timers meeting before the meet starts.

Scoring: We have a table for your meet admin to sit at with ours to enter times, review OOF when needed, and to do meet scoring.

Ribbons: SVKW will be delivering labeled placement ribbons to the visiting team’s pool by Wednesday following the meet. We are no longer writing ribbons during the meet.
