Parent Code of Conduct

Parent Code of Conduct:

We are looking forward to another summer of fun and many happy memories for our Shepherd Vineyard Killer Whales (SVKW). The goals of SVKW include helping young people establish a love for the sport of swimming, while developing teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship. All participants including swimmers, coaches, officials, board members, parents, and spectators are expected to exhibit the highest standards of sportsmanship and respect at all times while participating in all SVKW events.

As a SVKW parent, you agree to follow the rules for behavior and sportsmanship:

  • Show respect and be polite to EVERYONE including coaches, volunteers, opponents, and teammates
  • Respect the property of SV Pool and the surrounding HOA property. This goes for property at away meets as well
  • Model and reinforcement good sportsmanship with your swimmers
  • Follow all pool rules
  • Represent the team in a positive and respectful manner

As an SVKW parent you understand:

  • It is important to not interrupt coaches during practice or swim meets with feedback. For swimmer safety and continuity they need to be focused on the practice or meet at hand.
  • To bring any feedback to the attention of the Head Coach so you can work together to find an amenable solution.
  • The importance of declaring your swimmer’s meet participation by the weekly deadline
  • All teams in the Tarheel Swim Association (TSA) summer league are run by boards of parent volunteers. All parents are required to volunteer in some capacity to help run our team and meets.

As an SVKW Parent, you agree to the following rules for relays:

  • Only sign up your child for Medley Relay (1st event) or Freestyle Relay (last event) at meets if you are prepared to be present for those events
  • If you said your child was available for all relays, check the heat sheets when you arrive at the pool to see if they have been assigned to a relay team at the meet
  • Let the coaches know BEFORE you leave the meet if your child has to leave unexpectedly, so that we can find another swimmer to take their place in the relay
  • A swimmer who does not let the coaches know they are leaving the meet, or otherwise no-shows for a relay, will get one warning. If this happens a second time, the child will not be allowed to swim in relays at the next meet.
  • This is summer swim and we want to be fair and let everyone swim and have fun, but we cannot allow kids to just disappear from our relays at meets. It is not fair to the other kids on the relay team, parents, coaches or volunteers.
