Kid Pushing Instructions

First Event

• Confirm everyone has swim numbers clearly marked on BOTH arms
• If not, send to a parent or write it for them

In Between Events

• Pay attention to the announcer to get your kids to the clerk of course. He will give you 2 reminders! 1^st is to report to kid pusher. 2^nd is to report to clerk of course. In general, you should start lining your kids lined up when the group ahead is at the clerk of course.

Lining Kids Up

• Hold up the KP sign in the deep end outside the tent
  • Hold the sign up high so people can see
  • The kids will come to you (don't walk around the pool, we need you there to start organizing them)
• Use your KP sheet to put them in the proper order
• They need to stay in that order
• Do NOT let the kids hold the signs. We do not want to keep replacing them.

Swimmer Reminders- Good to do while waiting

• Remind them what stroke they are swimming!
• Demonstrate the stroke
• Have caps on and googles on

Clerk of Course

• Swimmers go to Richard first and wait in line along the diving well
• Swimmers should arrive in the order on your heat sheet
  • Richard may make changes, he has the final order
• Tell Richard if you are missing anyone or have extra swimmers
• Move to chairs behind the lanes when Richard tells you
• They move forward one chair with each heat that starts
• Stay with them until the last heat is done
• Kids stay in the chairs until the group has started off the blocks
• Heats may have empty lanes. Your kids will be tempted to fill that gap
  • A boy will never swim against a girl
  • Only 6 swimmers swim in the first heat!

MEDLEY RELAY- swim order

1. Backstroke
2. Breaststroke
3. Butterfly
4. Freestyle

FREESTYLE RELAY

Swimmer #1 and #3 start at the blocks

Swimmer #2 and #4 start at shallow end

MEDLEY RELAY

Swimmer #1 (Back) & #3 (Butterfly) start at the blocks

Swimmer #2 (Breaststroke) & #4(Free) start at shallow end

Relays 

Form 2 lines, for each side of pool

• Put them in lane order (two kids per lane
• 1KP takes each side of the pool If have more than 2 KPs, send 2KPs to the shallow end
• Only one heat of relays they go quick!
• Stay with the swimmers and keep them in order
• Shallow End swimmers- shallow dive!
• Remind All- don’t dive until your friend touches!

LOOK AHEAD: At the beginning of the night look ahead to who is on the Freestyle relay. This is the last race. Around backstroke confirm kids swimming in the freestyle relay know they are swimming so they DO NOT LEAVE EARLY. Changes can be made to relays but we need advance notice.
