The 2022 summer swim league season is just around the corner……. can you believe it?

Please take a moment to review the important dates and other information listed below for the 2022 season.

***Swim team families, please remember…..

You MUST be a Member of the pool to join the SVKW swim team!!

Per TSA regulations, your child will NOT be able to participate in swim practices, nor swim in a dual meet until your pool dues are paid. Please pay your pool membership dues BEFORE you start to register your swimmers!!**

Registration:

• SV Killer Whales - registration will open on our website on Monday 4/18 https://shepherdsvineyard.swimtopia.com/
• Registration for SVKW will close on Sunday May 1 to allow our Volunteer Coordinator time to organize volunteer shifts and give our coaches time to plan practice groups.

When you sign up for swim team, please provide us with an active email address that you check regularly.   We primarily communicate through regular team emails and you may miss some very important information if you never check your emails during swim season.

Important Volunteer Information:

Our swim team is a 100% VOLUNTEER RUN organization.

We are only able to function if everyone plays their part.

We CANNOT participate in swim meets if we do not have the volunteers on deck to do so.

Please do not sign your kids up for swim team if you are not willing or able to contribute your time and energy to the required volunteer duties.

We are trying something new for the 2022 season.

You will NOT be able to sign up for volunteer spots when you first register your swimmers. 

As always, all of our families WILL be required to support the team through a minimum number of volunteer shifts.  The number of shifts required will depend on the number of swimmers registered and will be determined after registration ends on 5/1.

The Volunteer Coordinator will contact registered families in May with details about how to sign up for volunteer shifts this year. She will open up the volunteer sign up system on May 9, 2022.

Each family is expected to have signed up for at least the minimum number of shifts by the first day of practice on May 23.

Please be aware that your kids will not be allowed to join practices or swim at meets if your family does not sign up for the required number of volunteer credits. There will be no “practice only” option, family volunteer points will be required for every family.

Volunteer Opportunity:

We are still looking for a 2nd TSA Representative to team up with Jenna Armstrong.

We need someone to share the responsibilities and help cover meets and TSA meetings.

Representatives attend TSA meetings and pass any new information to the SVKW Board.

In addition, you are our liaison to the other team during meets.

You will NOT be alone. The rest of the board will provide support and TSA provides training.

Swim Team Meet and Greet at SV Pool Member Workday ~ Saturday April 30th @ 1-3pm)

• Meet coaches, ask questions, purchase spirit wear (get your 2022 special limited edition T-shirt while supplies last), see old friends, and have a popsicle.
• Enter RAFFLE to win a 1:1 lesson with Coach Margaret. There will be 2 winners - 1 lesson for a 10&under swimmer and one lesson for an 11&up swimmer.
• This is the same day as the Pool member “Work Day”. If your family volunteers to work you can enter an “extra” raffle ticket for the 1:1 lesson.

2022 SVKW Swimsuits:

• The TYR Phoenix Splice suits from the past few seasons have been discontinued.

• Your swimmer can continue to wear this style of suit if they still fit them this season.

• Otherwise, swimmers will wear plain black swimsuits with an SV swim cap to swim at Tuesday night meets. (We will have caps available for purchase)
• TSA rules state that swimmers should NOT wear logos from year round swimming teams at our Tuesday night meets, so please be aware that (even if suit is all black) your swimmers should not wear suits with year round swim team logos.

Parent volunteers needed to monitor bathrooms at practices week 5/23 - 5/27

There will be no lifeguards at SV Pool during the first week of practice.

The pool is not open during the week until 5/30, so swimmers should NOT be in the pool unless it is time for their age group to practice, when they will be under the direct supervision of swim team coaches .

Swimmers are not allowed to hang out on deck for extended periods of time before/after their age group has practiced. They should leave the pool deck as soon as possible. The pool is NOT open for recreational swimming before/after your practice session.

The first week of evening swim practice will just be swimmers, coaches & parents.

SV Pool would like to offer the swim team the use of the bathrooms during practice times, but swim team will need help from our parents to monitor their swimmers, as there have been issues in the past with kids making a mess in the bathrooms and generally creating a nuisance.

The bathrooms will remain locked during practice if there are similar issues this season.
