Vote for new team swim suit design AND learn more about current volunteer opportunities
Happy Monday, Killer Whales!!
Your SVKW board members are super excited to have started making plans for the 2023 summer swim season.
We need your help with a couple of items:
#1 SWIMSUIT VOTE
After several years when swimmers were not required to wear team swim suits at meets, SVKW will be requiring all swimmers to wear team suits at the 2023 meets.
Our previous suit design has been discontinued, so we are going to choose a new suit design this summer.
This is YOUR swim team, so we would like our families' help to pick between three designs. Please use this link to view the 3 designs and vote for your favorite style if you have swimmers returning for the 2023 season. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc3oc5hTO42Jbn4bJ1E_jML0hkah6FS9B5WA7WY7AF-6gfnTQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
We will go with the style of swimsuit that gets the most votes.
#2 NEW PROCEDURE FOR PURCHASING SWIMSUITS
We will also be changing how suits are purchased this year. We will be working with the All American Swim store on Maynard in Cary. You will be able to take your kids into the store, try on suits and buy them directly from the store. We anticipate the suits costing less than $40.
#3 2023 VOLUNTEER NEEDS
As we enter our planning phase for the 2023 season we find ourselves with some very large gaps in our volunteer needs. With families moving, aging out, or having served 3+ years in a position, it is time for some fresh faces.
Our 2023 needs are below. Please consider taking on one of these positions. All fulfill your volunteer requirements for the season. Please reach out to Anne Hensley ASAP if you would like to find out more information about any of the following volunteer spots:
Awards Night Coordinator
Plan and coordinate all aspects of the end of the season Awards Night on July 25th and an end of season pool party for swim families (date TBD).
Cary City Meet Coordinator- Cary City Meet is a fun one day meet where all local summer swim teams dress up, have fun and compete against one another for all the glory!! (Tentative date Saturday July 15 still to be confirmed). As the coordinator you will receive the emails from the CCM Meet Director and attend an informational meeting prior to the meet. You’ll be the liaison to the parents and the coaches, organize the theme and decorations for the tent, coordinate snack donations and parent volunteers to set up Friday night and clean up Saturday evening.
Clerk of Course Assistant
You will be stationed behind the starting blocks at meets and confirm the upcoming heat is ready. You will work with the Clerk of Course to make sure that all 10/under swimmers are lined up correctly for the next heat per the heat sheet. (The timers will cover this role for 11/up swimmers.) For consistency, we are hoping to have 1 person commit to doing all the home meets.
Ribbon Coordinators
We have a head Ribbon Coordinator who will purchase the ribbons and coordinate with each team. We need two additional helpers for the season. Both positions will receive ribbons and blank labels at the beginning of the season. You will print labels at home, apply them to the appropriate ribbon and place them into our team folders. This role does require a working and reliable printer. Both jobs require attention to detail and a sense of urgency to get the ribbons into the boxes no later than Friday morning.
- Personal Best Ribbons- You will be responsible for personal best ribbons for each meet (both home and away). However, this is a 100% at-home volunteer role. You will receive personal best results by Wed and will need to have ribbons in the SVKW ribbon boxes by Friday morning practice.
- Placement Ribbons - This position is for 3 meets. Activities are slightly different for home or away meets and details can be shared with those interested in the job.
Starter
We are extremely fortunate to have had Corley & John Strunk as our starters for so many years. However, we need to prepare for the graduation of their swimmer. Corley is USA Swimming certified to train if you are not already certified. Requires 4 total meets each summer.
Time Entry
Enter all the times for each swimmer into the swimming software during the meet. Attention to detail is important! You will be able to step away to watch your swimmer. Ideally, for consistency, we have 2-4 people to commit to covering all the meets. The application is web-based, you will need a computer that can access the internet. During the meet there will be two people from each time entering times.
TSA Representative
2nd person needed to share the job with Jenna Armstrong.
Attend TSA meetings before the season starts and communicate updates to the swim team board. You also coordinate the meet planning with the opposing team (parking, warm up times) and are the on deck liaison at home and away meets. You’ll work 3 total meets and coordinate the meet schedule with Jenna. You will also need to attend SVKW board meetings to share TSA information. These meetings are scheduled ad hoc around the board members personal calendars.
Sponsorship & Fundraising
Contact local businesses to sponsor our swim team and coordinate various fundraising projects, such as car wash vouchers, spirit nights (papa murphy, fresh local ice cream and more).
Thank you all for your ongoing support for our swim team!!
