Hello Killer Whale Families!

Can you believe that the 2023 summer swim league season is just around the corner!? Your SVKW Swim Board has been working through their to-do lists and putting things together for a fantastic season. We'll be sharing some updates and news over the next few weeks but for now: here are a few reminders to note and upcoming events to put on your calendar.

If you want more information on upcoming dates, swimsuits, or policies, check out our SV Killer Whale website: https://shepherdsvineyard.swimtopia.com/.  Please forward this email on to anyone you think might be interested in swimming with the Killer Whales this season.

1: REMINDER: You must be a Member of the SV Pool to join the SVKW swim team. Join Now!

Click Here for information on SV Pool memberships and join now, before the SVKW registration opens.

Per TSA Regulations: we can’t allow your child to start practices+participate in meets until SV Pool dues have been paid.

2: New Families Q&A Event: Saturday, April 22, 1:00pm - 3:00pm:

Come join us for an informal event in the SV Pool Parking Lot to meet some of the swim team personnel, coaches, and ask them all your questions. This event is intended for new families interested in joining the Killer Whales or Beluga Whales, but anyone with questions is welcome to come by.

This is your moment to figure everything out before registration opens. It’s a great time to talk to board members and coaches, ask about KW and BW team requirements, understand the various volunteer jobs (all summer long vs first/second half shifts), tell us about any special skills you’d like to offer the team, etc.

We hope that you will stop by!

3: Swim Test on April 30th, 3:00pm, Silverton Pool in Cary

If you have a young or novice swimmer and you are not sure if they are ready for the swim team yet, we will be having a swim test on Sunday, April /30 (3-4 pm) at Silverton (heated) pool in Cary. The coaches will have your child swim and then make recommendations for one of three options based on their skill level: Killer Whales (competitive team), Beluga Whales (non-competitive-junior swim development team), or swim lessons.

Please email  [email protected]) for more information or to register your swimmer to participate in this swim test on 4/30.

4: Monday, May 1st: SVKW Registration opens up.

  • Registration for SVKW will be online only (click here).
  • Dues: $110 per swimmer (even siblings, see note below*)
  • Parent Volunteers: You will be asked to sign up for volunteer credits BEFORE submitting your registration. Volunteer role information is coming soon.**
  • *Swim Team Dues: All swimmers will pay $110 (no sibling discounts this year). Additionally, we’ve had frequent requests that we add the cost of social events, coach gifts, etc into the membership fee. We’ve raised the fee by $10 rather than having to ask you for various donations throughout the swim season.

**Volunteer credits: You cannot complete your swimmer’s registration until you have signed up for the required number of volunteer shifts (new this year). SVKW Swim Team is a 100% VOLUNTEER RUN organization. Please CAREFULLY consider your willingness and ability to volunteer at meets before registering for SVKW. We cannot participate in swim meets if we do not have the volunteers on deck to run the meet and it takes everyone to play a part so it’s not overwhelming for a few.

We hope to see you back on deck this year!
