Hello Killer Whales!
It is going to be a full and fun week as we kick off our competitive season with Pump It Up Pasta Night 6/5 and the 2023 Red/White Meet 6/6. During Monday night practice we'll be practicing meet-specific skills (rope, etc) so make a point to attend and RSVP swimmers for pasta. We also have lots of exciting things happening at this week’s meet: TY’s Food Truck, Team Pictures, a wide display of Spirit Wear for sale, and an opportunity to end the meet with ice cream.
Make sure you bring to the Meet some games or simple crafts to do with your pod of teammates while you wait for your events to start as well as some spirit to cheer everyone on. Some that have worked well in the past are easy board games, friendship bracelets, mad-libs, cards, jacks, and loom bands.
If you are new to swim meets, PLEASE reach out and ask for help, our established parents, and Swim Board, are all happy to direct and answer questions as they arise. There is a new parent meeting Saturday, June 3 at 10 am, this is a great opportunity to ask any questions before this intrasquad meet.
Go Killer Whales!

Declaring your swimmer by Noon on Sunday 6/4:
Declaring your swimmer means letting us know if you will or will not attend. Everyone should be declaring their swimmer for each meet by Noon on Sunday (6/4).
How to declare your swimmer (click here for step-by-step instructions)
Make sure you complete all 3 steps below for EACH registered swimmer (see photo below-click to enlarge):
- Declare attending or not attending for EACH swimmer registered.
- Select the events your swimmer will be present for
- Declare if you will or will not participate in Relays.
Declaring your attendance and relay intentions helps keep our heat sheets accurate and our meets running smoothly. There is a lot of work that has to happen to adjust them at the meet due to no-shows or people leaving early. Especially Relays. If you get to the meet and realize you are signed up for events you’ll miss, please tell your Kid Pusher right away. We ask that you do not just leave before letting someone know and we really appreciate this consideration!
If an emergency arises after 5 pm the Monday before a meet and your child will be missing all, or part, of the meet, please contact the Coaches as soon as possible by e-mailing them at: [email protected].
6/6 Red/White Meet Details
Since this is the first meet, it is like our team’s “dress rehearsal” and we use this opportunity to work out any issues that may occur. This is an intrasquad meet. It is more of a time trial for the swimmers. We will not be swimming against another team.
Team Photos+Warm-Up:
4:00 pm: The team photographer will be ready to take individual swimmer photos. If you RSVPd that you wanted individual swimmer photographs, you will have already received a link to sign up for specific time slots with the photographer. If you did not RSVP but want a time slot, please reach out to [email protected] ASAP for the signup link. There are limited time slots still available.
4:55 pm: all swimmers should arrive to get set up for the team photo.
5:30 pm: warm-up begins, followed by the meet starting time of 6pm.
Concessions:
We’ve arranged for different vendors to be on site this year in place of our normal SVKW Concessions: This week, Ty’s All Natural Food Truck is scheduled to be on-site around 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.
The SV Pool Concessions will also be offering their normal array of snacks and drinks.
Spirit Wear: Will be sold at this meet.
Pick up your tees, SV swim caps, and so many other fun things to be ready to show off your KW pride at our following meets swimming against other teams. Get it now before things start to sell out.
Parking:
Typically, we leave the SV Pool parking lot open for visiting teams. Since it’s just our team this week, its open for SVKW use. If it fills up, street-side parking is allowed but please be courteous and do not block anyone’s driveway, crosswalks, or intersections.
Please remember to bring:
A regular black Sharpie, your swimmer's goggles (and backup pair), swim caps, snacks, lots of beverages to stay hydrated in the hot sun, towels, folding chairs for you (Pool DECK Chairs are removed for meets), sunscreen, warm clothes for chilly nights and a few small toys/activities to entertain your swimmer. The Black Sharpie is used to write your swimmer's number on their arms.
Reminder: Swimsuits and Caps
NO YEAR ROUND, HS TEAM CAPS, or SUITS at TSA meets. This is against TSA rules and may lead to your swimmer being disqualified. The spirit of this TSA rule is that non-year-round swimmers won't be intimidated when they see another swimmer wearing a year-round cap or suit. Please do not risk being DQ by doing so.
Heat Sheets
Upon arrival at the pool, check the posted line-up sheets (on the diving board) to find out the events in which your swimmer(s) will be participating and their swim number.
We are also going to try to publish the heat sheets to the Swimtopia mobile app on Tuesday if we can, but please make sure to recheck these at the meet in case there were last-minute changes.
Swimmer Times
Swimmer Times - will be available on the Swimtopia app after each meet (see POST MEET email for specifics).
Swimmer Numbers (found on the Heat Sheets)
In Black Sharpie, please write “SV” followed by your child’s swim number (“SV xx”) on both of your swimmers arms, large and neat. Please NO Roman Numerals or adornments, such as smiley faces and curly Q's around the numbers. The timers need to be able to read these numbers easily. Make sure you use SV because other teams may use similar numbers.
On the Heat Sheets look for the last few digits. This is your swimmer number for the whole season: It will look like this: Jones, Sally (age) XXX
Volunteers: Check-In/Arrive early
All meet volunteers will receive an email Sunday regarding specific job start times and group meeting times. Please refer to your job signup schedule (my account in Swimtopia) for your assigned dates & jobs. Make sure you arrive in plenty of time to check in and fulfill your full obligation. If you cannot fulfill your obligation, contact Anne Hensley [email protected] as soon as possible.
Volunteer Job Openings (contact Anne to fill): 3 Timers.
Kid Pushers Role, Note to Parents
All 10 and under swimmer age groups will be assigned Kid Pusher volunteers at each meet to help them line up at the correct time and in the correct order, and then escort the group to the Clerk of Course prior to their scheduled swim (look for your age-group sign!). Parents, please noteIt is NOT the Kid Pushers job to go looking for your kids**. Please keep them close to the pool deck and paying attention to when it’s time to line up. Swimmers are encouraged to sit and hang near their age group flags instead of playing on the playground. This allows for faster and more efficient meets.
Mixed Desserts after Home Meets:
Mixed Desserts has agreed to stay open late after our home meets so we can end the night with ice cream (Menu). Come celebrate directly after the meet ends.
Address: 107 Edinburgh S Dr. (Suite 115), Cary, NC 27511.
Withdrawing Your Swimmer Deadline: June, 9
Registration fees are refundable through Friday, 6/9
Please email us at [email protected] to withdraw your swimmer. Because the team has to absorb a number of fixed costs regardless of enrollment, no refunds will be honored after Friday, June 9.
