6/20 Abbington Meet: Weather Update
Hi Killer Whales!
If you're new to the team you might be wondering how we handle weather calls at our Swim Meets.
Our Meet against the Abbington Alligators is still happening as scheduled so please make plans to attend unless you get a Swimtopia App alert telling you otherwise.
We've already created our Heat Sheets with the opposing team and no matter how poor the forecast looks, we never know exactly where in the county the storms will hit. The storm could by-pass the SV Pool altogether - this has definitely happened to us in the past! Practice last night was a great example of unpredictable weather at the pool. The forecast looked ominous but our 9's and older swimmers all enjoyed a storm-free practice and there were minimal changes that had to be made overall. There's always a chance that tonight will look the same, the storms will skip the pool location, and we never know until we are actually at the pool. We'll keep it safe, there might be a need to delay an event, but we will plan to swim as many events as the weather allows.
TSA rules state that a meet will go ahead in the rain as long as the lifeguards can see the bottom of the pool. As long as there is no thunder or lightning, we expect our swimmers to be on deck ready to swim!
Experienced swimmers on the team will tell you: close your weather apps, pack some extra towels and sweatshirts (storms mean cooler weather), maybe bring a tailgate tent or umbrella just in case, bring a change of dry clothes for younger swimmers who finish early then stay for sibling events, but don't stay home and miss out on helping us beat off those Alligators.
We will send information via Swimtopia App alerts to your phone in the event of weather delays (make sure you've downloaded and keep an eye on your App).
Like always, don't be a no-show! If you find yourself unable to attend the meet today, please contact the coaches ASAP at [email protected] so they have time to make changes to the lineups stratigically. Please do your very best to avoid last-minute changes or no-shows as that makes things very chaotic for the other swimmers, volunteers and parents. Please connect with Coach Lauren at the meet if you need to suddenly leave early outside of event cancellations.
Go Killer Whales!
