Hello Killer Whales!
Here are all the details from our 7/18 meet as well as some upcoming events to take note of! First, congrats on the win! You served up a large plate of bubbles to the Wahoos last night. Our final score was Killer Whales 268.5 and Wahoos 244.5. Second, we are so proud of our Killer Whales, both for your hard work and for how you’ve conducted yourself at meets. Your sportsmanship and encouragement towards fellow SVKWs as well as the opposing team swimmers have made your coaches, parents, and swim board proud! Check your folders this weekend for your Personal best and other ribbons and prizes. If you think you’re missing a personal best ribbon, or have other questions, please contact Lily Wan
We hope to see you at the Sky Zone Apex (Defy Gravity) tomorrow night (7/20) for our team spirit night from 6 - 8 pm. You'll be able to fly through the air instead of the water.
If you're free on Saturday, come cheer on our Beluga Whales during their mini-meet or sign up to be a kid-catcher (details below).
See you on Deck!

Thank you to Beth Chapman, Leslie Armbruster, Mitch Armbruster, Ashley Burke, Peter Thompson, David Snoke, and Patricia Denz who filled our 7 unexpected vacancies at the Walden Creek Meet. And to Jamie Sharpe and Meredith Kolk-Tomberlin for filing in on deck for additional surprise vacancies. We appreciate all those who offered to help!
Additionally, we'd like to give a shout-out to ALL of the volunteers who came together to make it possible for our Killer Whales to participate in Cary City Meet last Saturday. THANK YOU to all of our Kid Pusher and Timer volunteers and to the Dream Team of Decorators: MarAnna, Ruth, Cheryl, Kara, and Meredith. Coach Highlight: Lauren Nance, Assistant Coach
We've been very grateful to all our coaches for their dedication to our SVKW team this past summer. Here's another coach highlight from Coach Lauren (full bio here). She's had many years of being on year-round and summer swim teams and has also been the Captain of her high school swim team.
How old were you when you joined your first swim team? I was six years old when I joined my first swim team, Shepherd’s Vineyard.
What made you want to coach SVKW? I found my love for swimming my first year on SVKW. I wanted to help kids feel the same joy of swimming and being a part of a team.
What is your favorite event to swim? My favorite event to swim would either have to be 50 freestyle or 100 backstroke. I love the events where I get to sprint!
What stroke took you the longest to master? That would have to be butterfly! Though, I still haven’t mastered it quite!
What is your favorite at-the-pool food or drink? My favorite pool food would have to be pizza! I’m always craving it after I go swimming!
