Weather impact on swim meets

We realize there was probably some confusion and a number upset kids and disappointed parents at the end of the meet at Medfield earlier this week. We have been lucky enough not to have a meet interrupted by storms for a couple of seasons, so it was probably the first time many of you had experienced this.

In case there are some parents who did not hear the explanation for what happened, we wanted to share that information with you guys.

If it becomes clear that an impending storm may be on its way to the local area, the TSA reps have a lot of factors to consider. If we are able to get all main events swum through the end of breaststroke events, then the meet can be considered "official" and the meet can be scored.  If we don't get through breaststroke before the thunder/lightning arrives, then everyone has to come back Wednesday to finish the meet.

Although we are sure that we all want out kids to swim everything that they were scheduled to swim that night, there are probably not many people who relish the idea of resetting everything to come back again the next night.

That is why the TSA reps decided to switch to all main/point-scoring events after backstroke concluded - to get the meet officially finished through breaststroke and avoid having to return to Medfield on Wednesday.

Sometimes, the threat of a storm passes and we are then able to go back to allow everyone to swim all the events they were supposed to swim. Unfortunately, we didn't get to do that for very long on Tuesday night before the storm hit.

Like you all, we were very disappointed that we were not able to finish out the 2024 season on a happier note, by completing all of the planned events on Tuesday night. However, we have had seasons when multiple meets were disrupted due to storms, so we are thankful that this only happened once this season.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Awards Ceremony on Saturday afternoon!
