Coaching Update for 2025 season

Hope everyone is OK after yesterday's weather events!

Although the pool is closed now and we are still more than 6 months away from launching our 2025 SVKW summer swim season, your swim team board could not wait to share an exciting change that will be coming up next summer!!

At the end of the 2024 season, we met with Jim Swartz to explore the possibility of him joining our coaching staff. Jim has recently retired from a corporate job and he is a grandfather to a couple of our younger Killer Whales. He has an extensive swimming & coaching history, having swum in college, coached Green Hope HS swim team for 10 years and been instrumental setting up a local neighborhood swim team a few years ago.

The board felt that Jim’s lengthy coaching experience and passion for summer swim made him a great candidate to bring some long term stability to our coaching team.

We are, therefore, very happy to share the news that the SVKW board has decided to move forward with appointing Jim Swartz to be the new Head Coach of the swim team starting next summer.

While we are excited to welcome Coach Swartz to the SVKW team next summer, we also recognize that change can be difficult. Having discussed this news with the current coaching team, we are excited that most of our coaches do plan to return next season under Coach Jim's leadership. Coach Meg, however, will most likely not return to coaching with the Killer Whales as she has major changes coming up in her life as she graduates college.

The SVKW swim team will always be grateful to Coach Meg & Coach Emma for agreeing to step up into the Head Coach role in 2022 in less-than-ideal circumstances, when our former Head Coach unexpectedly stepped down.

Coach Meg has made many contributions to the SVKW team, both as a Killer Whale swimmer and as a coach over her long tenure with the team. As she graduates from college this summer and moves on to a new career, we know that Coach Meg will be missed. We hope you will all join us in recognizing her long term commitment to our swim team and wishing her the very best in all of her new ventures.  Thank you, Coach Meg!!
