Hello Killer Whales!

We're thrilled you've made the Killer Whales your summer swim team.  This will be a newsy email but contains all the info you need as we approach the start of our season. Please read carefully and mark your calendar for our upcoming events, such as Time Drop Training (open to anyone curious about this role), New Family Orientation, and our Welcome Back party, to name a few. 

The weather this week is looking wet and rainy. Make sure you’ve downloaded the SwimTopia App and turned on all the notifications so you can get the latest alerts if we need to make changes to an event or practice due to weather.

Volunteer Time Drop Training + Vacant Roles: 

We're still in need of Time Drop Managers, one more Order of Finish Judge, and Meet Admin help. Please consider filling one of these very crucial positions! 

We are hosting a training for Time Drop, our timing system, Tuesday, May 20th 6pm at the pool. Anyone who is curious about what the job requires can join us and get a sneak a peek at the system. Email our volunteer team with questions.

We will also be answering questions about the Meet Admin role at this meeting. We need one more person to help cover all the Tasks/Meets. This is a multi-person role and we still need volunteers. Email our volunteer team with questions. 

New Swim Team Family Orientation @ SV Pool

If you're new to SVKW and summer swim, join us for our team Orientation on Saturday, May 24 9:15 AM until about 10:15am. You'll be able to meet other families, ask questions, and we'll review basic team information. Returning SKVW's who feel confused on team specifics are also welcome to attend. 

Welcome Back Party, Save the (New) Date

Our 2025 Welcome Back Party has been changed due to some unforeseen circumstances.  Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 29 from 5pm - 8pm, during our regular practice times.  Spirit Wear will be on sale during this event. 

6/1 Red-White Meet: Save the Date!

This years Red+White Intrasquad Meet will be held the morning of June 1st, warm-up starts at 8:30am; the Meet start at 9am.  We'll be selling spirit wear and the Buoy Bowls Food Truck will be on site from 11:30am - 1:30pm. 

We'll send out a pre-meet email out with swimmer declaration instructions, deadlines,  and meet information the week before.

Calling all HS Seniors, 5-year, and 10-year swimmers

Reply to this email and let us know if your swimmer is a high school senior or if they have reached their 5-year or 10-year mark with the SVKW team.  We'll celebrate our seniors at one of our home meets and make sure your swimmer receives their 5 or 10 year pins. 

2025 National Anthem Singers:

We are looking for kids or parents who would like to volunteer to sing the National Anthem at the start of our four home meets this summer: 6/1, 6/17, 7/1, and 7/8.  Email us to sign up! No specific skills required. 

Swim Practice Policies and Bathroom Monitoring Reminders:

Regularly check the SVKW website for changes to scheduled practice days and times. We do our best to keep it updated as changes come up: https://shepherdsvineyard.swimtopia.com/practice-schedule

Swim Team Practice Notes: During the first week of practice, as well as morning practice, the SV pool is closed. Only swimmers practicing with their age group should be in the pool or on the lower deck near the pool. Please make a point to collect your swimmer promptly after their age group practice is over. Families with siblings can wait under the pool house or on the upper deck area.

Parents, please remember to refrain from discussing any comments or concerns with the SVKW coaches during practice times. This allows them to be 100% focused on coaching and monitoring swimmer safety. You are welcome to contact Coach Jim outside of our regular practice times.

Bathrooms: The SV Pool graciously allows us to use the bathrooms during the first week of practice while the pool is still closed. Please make sure your swimmers are not leaving a mess of water, TP, or soap during practices as this may affect our ability to keep them open.
