Happy Saturday Killer Whales!
This week's meet is an away meet against the Preston Village Tiger Sharks. Polish up your team cheer and be ready to encourage your fellow teammates as you take on these stealthy sharks!
Make sure you've declared your swimmers attending / not attending and available for relays / not available. If you miss the Sunday noon deadline to declare, there is a really high probability that your swimmer cannot be added late. All meets are open so you can go ahead and declare for the season and update as needed each week.
Info on specific parking requirements, concessions (cash only!), backup goggles/caps for sale (Venmo only), TSA liaisons, and last-minute weather alerts are included in the meet information.
We still need one more 7/8 Boy's Kid Pusher for this meet. If you can help out, use the Sign-up calendar 'job sign-up' link to volunteer for this role.
We're looking forward to seeing you shine this week!
Let's go Killer Whales!

Reminder: Emergencies after the Swimmer Declaration Deadline
We know life happens despite the best planning! If an emergency arises due to sickness or injury after the meet declaration deadline, here’s who to contact. Please communicate and don't be a no-show! Alot of work goes into running a timely and smooth meet and we appreciate timely communication.
- After the Sunday noon deadline but before 3 pm Tuesdays: if your swimmer will be missing all, or part of a meet please inform the coaches of the change as soon as possible by emailing them at: [email protected].
- At the meet (after 3pm Tuesday): If you cannot attend at all, please email the coaches AND text a friend to tell them when they arrive. Coaches may/may not get emails after 3pm Tuesdays once they are in route to the pool so as many people who know, the better. If you are at the pool already, please inform the coaches if you need to suddenly leave.
Relay Reminder: Don't be a no-show:
If you signed up for Relays, please show up! Or let the coaches know if you need to suddenly leave early. Our Parents' code of conduct regarding Relay no-shows is here. Additionally, the default on declarations is "available for Relays." Please double-check the heat sheet when you arrive to see if your swimmer is swimming relays, even if you think you marked them not available. It's super easy to forget this step and checking when you arrive avoids surprises. Relays are great opportunities for points for the team, and we end up with super disappointed kids if they can't swim in a relay because one child was a no-show.
TSA Liaison Role:
Each swim team has a TSA representative who acts as a liaison between the two swim teams (and SVKW coaches/parents) during a meet. If you have concerns or conflicts that arise during the meet, please refrain from discussing these issues directly with the opposing team's coaches, swimmers, and parents, as well as the SVKW Coaches. Our TSA Reps are there to help you resolve any issues that may arise.
Swim Cap Reminders:
Please make sure swimmers only wear SVKW team swimsuits and caps during meets. Suits that match the team colors (red and black) and black swim caps can also be worn. We do not allow swimsuits or caps with other swim team colors or logs.
6/10 Meet Information:
Check the posterboard heat sheets when you arrive:
When you arrive at the meet, double-check the printed posterboard heat sheets. Changes are often made last minute if swimmers have an emergency, and sometimes these sheets differ from the app. Big Whales: check your LW heat sheets to see if they are swimming this meet, and when.
Schedule:
- 5:25 pm: SVKW team warm-up
- Volunteers, check-in as you arrive, by 5:25 pm at the latest.
- 5:30 pm: Volunteer Meeting for Timers and Recorders, near the ping-pong table
- 5:45 pm Meet Officials Meeting: TSA Reps, Stroke and Turn, Starters, OOF, near the starter blocks
- Meet begins at 6:00 pm
Location: Preston Village Pool: 311 Preston Village Way, Cary, 27519
Parking: "We have limited parking spaces, so we encourage car pooling. Once the parking lot is full you may park along the road (please park on the poolside only), and at the park shelter, just east of the pool, on the other side of the pond. Preston Village Way is a pass-through for emergency vehicles, so please make sure cars are not parked on both sides of the street."
Seating: "The visiting team seating area is to the immediate right once you pass through the main gate. This area will get shady, but is often sunny at the start of the evening. Bring your own folding chairs. You are welcome to bring canopies or tents if you have them."
Concessions: concessions will offer pizza, hot dogs, snacks, and beverages. They accept cash only.
Goggles and Black Swim Caps for purchase: If you need a pair of goggles or a swim cap during the meet, find Ruth Keen (or ask any board member to help you find her). She will be selling both these items for $20 each during the meet (SVKW Venmo only).
Parents: Make sure your swimmers are on deck and ready to go at first call for their events. It’s not the kid pushers' job to come find your child for their event.
Weather Reminders: The weather is looking nice for Tuesday night. Just a quick reminder for the season, if a storm does crop up mid-meet, please wait for official announcements and instructions before packing up and leaving. We try our best to complete the meet if it's safe to do so. We will always let families know our plans through announcements and the SwimTopia Alerts. There are set protocols we follow for storms that pop up during a meet.
6/12 Tie Dye Event Details
It's time to tie-dye! We hope you'll join us for this fun & messy team event on Thursday, June 12th. Stop by anytime between 5:00pm - 8:00pm. Each SVKW kiddo is invited to tie dye a t-shirt to wear at our home meet against Walden Creek. We'll provide the supplies, swimmers are responsible for purchasing a shirt.
PLEASE RSVP Yes or No by 6/10/25 through the SignUp Calender. We want to have enough supplies for everyone and getting a head count through the RSVP’s is the only way to do that.
Email our Social Chair, Amanda, at [email protected] with any questions!
Shirt Options UPDATE:
- Bring a white t-shirt from home (preferably prewashed) OR purchase a special SVKW white shirt ($10) that was made specifically for this event. We have adult-M and adult-XL remaining for sale.
