Happy Saturday, Killer Whales!

We had such a great turnout this morning for our TAC Clinic! Thank you for coming out and we hope you learned alot! This upcoming week is our first away meet and we'll be swimming against the Scottish Hills Sea Lions. They might be noisy and sound fierce with their grunts and barks from shore, but once in the water, they can't match a Killer Whales' speed. Come ready to cheer on your SVKW Pod as you face off against this family of Otariinaes.

Meanwhile, don't forget to declare your swimmers before the Sunday noon deadline. If you miss this deadline, there is a really high probability that your swimmer cannot be added late.

Let's go, Killer Whales!

Volunteer Jobs Needed for this Meet:

We still need Subs for this week! Subs play an important role if someone has an emergency and can't serve their full shift. Please email our Volunteer Coordinator team to sign up [email protected]

TSA Rule Weekly Highlight:

We know when it's super hot out, it is very tempting for both younger siblings and swimmers to sit on the edge of the pool with their feet in the water. However, TSA rules state that no one is allowed in the water during meets. This includes dipping in feet, hands, caps, and filling water toys. Parents, we need you to make sure your swimmers stay fully out of the pool at all times between heats, it is not the life-guards role to monitor spectators. We appreciate your cooperation!

Reminder: Emergencies after the Swimmer Declaration Deadline:

If an emergency arises due to sickness or injury after the meet declaration deadline, you can contact the below. It is very important that you communicate changes as they occure and avoid being a no-show. A lot of work goes into our heat sheets and we must have volunteers in place to run the meet.

  • After the Sunday noon deadline but before 3 pm Tuesdays: if your swimmer will be missing all, or part of a meet please inform the coaches of the change as soon as possible by emailing them at: [email protected].
  • After 3:00 pm Tuesday (or at the meet): If you cannot attend at all, please email the coaches AND text a friend to let them know. Coaches may/may not get emails after 3 pm on Tuesdays once they are en route to the pool, so the more people who know, the better. If you are at the pool already, please inform the coaches if you need to leave suddenly.
  • Volunteer Coordination Team: If any of the above occurs and you are also serving, please contact our volunteer team to assist you in stepping out of your duties.

Relay Reminders:

The default on declarations is "available for Relays." Please double-check the heat sheet when you arrive to see if your swimmer is swimming relays, even if you think you marked them not available. It's super easy to forget this step and checking when you arrive avoids surprises. If you signed up for Relays, please show up! Or let the coaches know if you need to suddenly leave early. Our Parents' code of conduct regarding Relay no-shows is here. Relays are great opportunities for points for the team, and we end up with super disappointed kids if they can't swim in a relay because one child was a no-show.

Inclement Weather Updates During a Meet:

Tuesday's weather is looking great for a Meet. A preemptive reminder as we enter summer storm season: If the weather suddenly turns bad during a Meet, please make sure to check your Swimtopia app alerts for instructions, don't just leave. We'll keep you updated through alerts to let you know what to do. When safe to do so, we do our best to complete the minimum events required to complete a Meet so we avoid having to come back the next day to finish.

6/10 Meet Information:

Heat Sheets: By now, you know the routine: double check the printed Heat sheets posted at the meet for last-minute changes.  Big Whales: check your LW heat sheets to see if they are swimming this meet, and when.

Schedule:

  • 5:30 pm: SVKW team warm-up
  • Volunteers, check-in as you arrive, by 5:25 pm at the latest.
  • 5:45 pm: Volunteer Meeting for Timers and Meet Officials, at the front entrance, near the ping-pong table.
  • Meet begins at 6:00 pm

Location:  Scottish Hills Recreation Club: 1423 Tarbert Drive, Cary, North Carolina 27511 (Map). On Cary Parkway, between Lake Pine Dr. and Old Apex Rd.

Parking: (Please pay special attention to where we can / cannot park, in addition to city parking regulations, to avoid ticketing or towing.) Our pool parking area is made fully available to you as our visitors, but is limited in size. There is a Park across the street that has generous parking available, and we also use street parking on Tarbert Dr, the same side that the pool is located. Please see the file attached that shows the pool, and the surrounding area, with parking defined by blue marks - orange marks indicate NO PARKING.

Seating: The pool deck is reserved for your team. Chairs are limited and pool deck furniture is cleared from the deck, so we encourage you to bring portable seats/folding chairs (Tents are also allowedgiven limited shade). In the file attached (and above image), all areas in green are available to your team and families. Yellow areas are walkways, and red areas are for meet officials/coaches/starting blocks. Swimmers will load from the shallow end of the pool - identified by the star.

Concessions: We will have concessions available, including pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, cookies, chips, fruit, soda, water, frozen treats, and candy.

Parents: Make sure your swimmers are on deck and ready to go at first call for their events. It’s not the kid pushers' job to come find your child for their event.

Goggles and Black Swim Caps for purchase:

If you need a pair of goggles or a swim cap during the meet, we will be selling a limited amount at away meets at the SVKW volunteer table ($20 each).

TSA Liaison Role:

Each swim team has a TSA representative who acts as a liaison between the two swim teams (and SVKW coaches/parents) during a meet. If you have concerns or conflicts that arise during the meet, please refrain from discussing these issues directly with the opposing team's coaches, swimmers, and parents, as well as the SVKW Coaches. Our TSA Reps are there to help you resolve any issues that may arise.

Swimsuit and Cap Reminders:

Please make sure swimmers only wear SVKW team swimsuits and caps during meets. Suits that match the team colors (red and black) and black swim caps can also be worn. We do not allow swimsuits or caps with other swim team logos/colors or any kind of tech swimsuits.
