Good Morning, Killer Whales
Our Away Meet this week will be against the Medfield Sharks. While these sharks are circling closer and closer, we know you have the speed needed to leave them in a trail of bubbles! Make sure you bring lots of hydrating drinks and snacks, as the heat is here to stay.
Our next team event is our Ice-Cream Social and Bingo night on July 8th. Please make sure to RSVP attending / not attending on the Sign-Up calendar so we can ensure we have enough for everyone!
The Cary City Meet is coming up quickly and you don't want to miss out on this extra fun event! Last year, we placed 4th out of 24 teams. If you haven't done so yet, take a minute to review the emails from our coordinator, Kara Snoke. The meet entries will be opening up soon!
Let's go, Killer Whales!

Reminder: Emergencies after the Swimmer Declaration Deadline:
If an emergency arises due to sickness or injury after the meet declaration deadline, you can contact the below. It is very important that you communicate changes as they occure and avoid being a no-show. A lot of work goes into our heat sheets and we must have volunteers in place to run the meet.
- After the Sunday noon deadline but before 3 pm Tuesdays: if your swimmer will be missing all, or part of a meet please inform the coaches of the change as soon as possible by emailing them at: [email protected].
- After 3:00 pm Tuesday (or at the meet): If you cannot attend at all, please email the coaches AND text a friend to let them know. Coaches may/may not get emails after 3 pm on Tuesdays once they are en route to the pool, so the more people who know, the better. If you are at the pool already, please inform the coaches if you need to leave suddenly.
- Volunteer Coordination Team: If any of the above occurs and you are also volunteering, please contact our volunteer team to assist you in stepping out of your duties.
Relay Reminders:
The default on declarations is "available for Relays." Please double-check the heat sheet when you arrive to see if your swimmer is swimming relays, even ifyou think you marked them not available. It's super easy to forget this step and checking when you arrive avoids surprises. If you signed up for Relays, please show up! Or let the coaches know if you need to suddenly leave early. Our Parents' code of conduct regarding Relay no-shows is here. Relays are great opportunities for points for the team, and we end up with super disappointed kids if they can't swim in a relay because one child was a no-show.
Weather Updates During a Meet:
As we enter summer storm season, If the weather suddenly turns bad during a Meet, please make sure to check your Swimtopia app for instructions, don't just leave. We'll use alerts to keep you updated and informed on what to do. When safe to do so, we do our best to complete the minimum events required to complete a Meet to avoid having to come back the next day to finish the meet.
6/23 Medfield Meet Information:
Check the posterboard heat sheets when you arrive: When you arrive at the meet, double-check the printed posterboard heat sheets. Changes are often made last minute if swimmers have an emergency, or if teams end up limiting events. The app may differ from the final heat sheets. Big Whales: check your LW heat sheets to see if they are swimming this meet, and when.
Schedule:
- 5:00 pm: swimmers arrive at get set up
- Volunteers, check in as you arrive, by 5:25 pm at the latest.
- 5:25 pm: SVKW team warm-up
- 5:45 pm: the Timers, officials, judges, etc., meeting, likely in the Clerk of Course area behind the blocks.
- Meet begins at 6:00 pm
Location: Medfield Swim Club, 1401 Baker Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607.
Parking: Our parking is limited, but we are reserving most of our parking lot for your team. There will be a few spaces reserved for our swim team board as we may be arriving late with food. Street parking is also available and will need to be significantly utilized, but we are asked to make sure that everyone parks on only one side of each street so that emergency vehicles can get through if necessary. On Baker Rd, we will have cones and signs blocking off the right side of the street past King Lawrence as you approach the pool parking lot (lighting is limited, so flashlights are recommended).
Seating: We can set up chairs and canopy tents in a couple of places. The left side of the pool deck is reserved for our team (bring your own chairs). Swimmers can also use the small field outside the fence, as well as the tennis courts for extra seating. Note: Parents and swimmers may not sit in the grass directly behind the blocks, as this is the Clerk of Course area and can already get a little crowded at times. Map attached.
Concessions: We will have available: Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, Chick-fil-A 5-piece nuggets, Pizza by the slice, Harris Teeter sub sandwiches, Water, Gatorade, Sodas, Candy, Frozen treats
Our concessions area accepts Venmo and cash only.
Goggles and Black Swim Caps for purchase: If you need a pair of goggles or a swim cap during the meet, we will be selling a limited amount at away meets for $20 each from the volunteer table.
Parents: Make sure your swimmers are on deck and ready to go at first call for their events to help keep the meet flowing and on time. It’s not the kid pushers' job to come find your child for their event. Please also ensure swimmers follow pool rules and stay out of the water between heats.
TSA Liaison Role:
Each swim team has a TSA representative who acts as a liaison between the two swim teams (and SVKW coaches/parents) during a meet. If you have concerns or conflicts that arise during the meet, please refrain from discussing these issues directly with the opposing team's coaches, swimmers, and parents, as well as the SVKW Coaches. Our TSA Reps are there to help you resolve any issues that may arise.
Swimsuit and Cap Reminders:
Please make sure swimmers only wear SVKW team swimsuits and caps during meets. Suits that match the team colors (red and black) and black swim caps can also be worn. We do not allow swimsuits or caps with other swim team logos/colors or any kind of tech swimsuits.
